Croatian Extravaganza 2009
The
Croatian Extravaganza, one of California’s most popular
cultural and social events, is right around the corner and like those preceding
it, promises good food, good entertainment and fun for all who attend. Join us
the weekend of June 13th & 14th at the Croatian-American Cultural Center,
to celebrate the lively, festive traditions of the Croatian people. The
Extravaganza, launched in 1982, is a tribute to Croatians everywhere who have
made their mark in the arts, civic, political and professional arenas.
The Croatian American Cultural Center extends a warm welcome to all and
promises a very enjoyable celebration that is made special each year by the
mingling of many cultures during the course of the weekend. Bring the whole
family for a delicious barbeque dinner and a variety of other delicious
Croatian Cuisine and pastries in our large park-like setting. Our bar features
fine wine and imported and domestic beers, as well as a variety of specialty drinks.
Children’s games will be available and children can purchase all-day passes
for the activities.
Admission is $7 and children under 12 are free. Gates open at noon June 13th and 14th.
Entertainment
Our entertainment program comprises of both traditional and contemporary
Croatian music that is sure to please everyone. We are proud to announce two tamburitza ensembles:
Hrvatska Loza from Chicago, IL, and
Sidro from San Jose, CA. Traditional Croatian
folk dances will be presented by Hrvatska Loza from Chicago,
Koraci Kolo Group from San Jose and our local
Sacramento Kolo Group who will be performing in colorful Croatian national costumes.
The evening program continues with popular Croatian contemporary melodies presented by
our favorite visiting performers from Los Angeles, Mate Caric and Petra Tulic.
Accompanied by our local CRO DJ Mario, they will keep the party going late into the night.
Cuisine
Another highlight of the festival is the cuisine which brings
festival goers back every year. Each year, between 40 and 50 lambs and pigs
are barbequed, along with cevapcici (beef and pork rolls), smoked Croatian sausage,
and Croatian style steak. Accompanying the entrees are a variety of delicious
side dishes and salads. Pastries, always a favorite, are the perfect end to a
delightful meal. Choose among a variety of combination plates featuring delicacies
such as nut rolls, tortes, strudel, burek, kifle, hrstule, baklava, and assorted cookies.
Our bar features fine wine and imported and domestic beers,
as well as a variety of specialty drinks.
